Abstract
In this article, we will discuss the newly discovered Xianbei period monuments in the north-eastern region of Mongolia are Mount Gavilui in Hongor Sum of Darkhan-Uul Province, Agityn Uvur of Orhontuul Sum, Ulaan Chuluut of Orkhon Sum, Hongor-Ovoo of Baruunburen Sum, Karnikov and Salhit of Yeroo Sum of Selenge Province, with the aim of bringing monuments such as mouths into the circulation of research. Among these, we will present the results of some research work carried out in 2021-2023 at Mount Gavilui Monument in Hongor Sum, Darkhan-Uul Province. In addition, the significance of our research work is to find out what kind of people the Xianbei people were born and raised in present-day Mongolia, where their political center might be, and how they are related to ancient nomadic tribes in terms of burial rituals. According to our preliminary research, their political center and kings and nobles were concentrated in the northeastern region of present-day Mongolia. According to the excavations of Mount Gavilui, they are similar to the rituals of the Khirgisuur and Slab burial Cultures of the Bronze Age dating back to 3500-3000 years ago. Moreover, the similarity of many aspects of the lifestyle and culture of the Xiongnu shows that they were a traditional nomadic people and were born in the eastern part of the Huns. It has been tentatively determined that the peoples who left this culture were concentrated in the Selenge River basin between the 1st century BC to 1st centuries AD with the heyday of the Hun dynasty. In terms of lifestyle, they were not only nomads, but also hunters, as can be clearly seen from the excavations of Mount Gavilui. They hunted animals and birds such as deer, piglets, marmots, marbled polecat, badgers, and great bustard for their livelihood. The most interesting thing is that it was customary to accompany their funeral rituals with sheep’s scapula, four ribs, and cow’s breast, which corresponds to the present-day Mongolian food.
