Abstract
This paper is concerned with Searle's principles of metaphors. Here I adopted a cognitive point of view. Firstly, I presented his explanations of them and showed that his principles were inadequate and redundant. Secondly, I synthesized one principle, to which I added my cognitive opinion. That is, Metaphors allow us to derive a cognitive-synergical similarity at a higher level which includes structurally- connected features between two different domains, and on the basis of the similarity, we accept structurally-connected features(S‘ Rs) at a lower level as possible metaphorical meanings. The term "cognitive-synergical" means the thing merged cognitively with two different things.
