본 연구는 영어의 명령 구문을 논의하고 Chomsky (2005)의 최소주의 이론에 입각하여 명령구문에 대한 새로운 허가조건을 제시하고자 한다. 본 논문에서 제시된 허가조건은 명령자질의 어휘범주와 기능법주의 인접성의 관점에서 그리고 무위적 통사이동을 금하는 경제성원리를 바탕으로 제시된 조건이다. 이러한 허가 조건은 영어의 명령 구문에 국한되지 않고 불어의 명령문에도 적용될 수 있다는 점에서 통합적 허가조건이 될 수 있다. 이러한 허가 조건은 자체 내의 위계를 가지고 있으며 적용에 있어서 순서가 있는 허가조건이다.
Abstract
The aim of this article is to address imperative constructions in English and provide licensing conditions under the minimalist framework of Chomsky (2005). The licensing conditions put forth in this study account for English imperative sentences in terms of the adjacency requirement between the functional host of imperative features and the lexical bearers of imperative features and the economy principle that bans vacuous syntactic operations. The alternative licensing conditions offered in this study might be hierarchical syntactic conditions in that they are applied in an orderly fashion.
