이 연구는 A. N. Whitehead 과정철학이 통합교육과정에 주는 함의를 밝히는 문헌연구이다. 이를 위해 Whitehead의 과정철학에 관한 그의 저서들과 그의 교육철학을 보여 주는『교육의 목적』을 통해 파악할 수 있는 교육철학을 바탕으로 한 통합교육과정의 세 가지 관점 및 목적, 내용, 방법을 제시하였다. Whitehead의 과정철학은 통합교육과정에 대해 ‘관계의 통합교육과정’, ‘전일적 통합교육과정’, ‘리듬의 통합교육과정’의 세 가지 관점을 제시한다. 통합교육과정의 내용적 측면에서 Whitehead는 지금까지 소홀히 해 온 교육의 영성에 대해서도 언급하고 있다. 또한 절대적인 가치에 대해 배워 가는 미적 감수성 교육과 학생들의 실제적인 삶과 관련성을 가지는 삶의 기술로서의 교육을 강조하면서, 오늘날 우리의 교육이 소홀히 하고 있는 전일적인 통합교육과정에 대한 요소를 보여 주고 있다. 그러므로 통합교육과정의 방법적 측면에서는 ‘교육의 리듬’과 ‘자율과 규율의 조화’를 활용할 수 있을 것이다
Abstract
The purpose of the study was to perform a literature review focused on implications of A. N. Whitehead’ process philosophy for curriculum integration. To this end, the researchers focused on Whitehead’s works on the process philosophy and The Aim of Education, as well as a number of studies about his educational philosophy. In this study, process philosophy’s key concepts, actual entity, prehension, and concrescence, have been analyzed in terms of education. I also studied educational implications of the process philosophy by inspecting The Aim of Education regarding the process philosophy. Moreover, we proposed three perspectives of curriculum integration together with aims, contents, methods of it. The curriculum integration in the future should reject knowledge-oriented education and adopt flexible applicability to a nationwide curriculum. Also, teachers and students altogether ought to build a learning community where every member of the community is supposed to be a subject. The issue of education environment and educational subject, and the education of spiritual and aesthetic sensitivity that the existing curriculum does not highlight should be addressed in terms of holistic educational point of view. Three stages of education, those of romance, precision, and generalization, can have implications to teaching and learning. Based on this study, I hope future investigations should be done in relation to the curriculum integration and integrated curriculum paradigm shift in terms of educational philosophy.
