이 연구는 의미론적 원리 위에서 학교 문법을 이해하는 로버트 딕슨의 이론적문법구조를 탐색했다. 다른 학자들의 문법의 통찰력을 무시하기보다 딕슨의 독특한 의미론에 기반을 둔 아이디어로 학생들이 기존에 배워왔던 통사론적 중심의 학교문법의 취약점을 보완하려고 노력했다. 이 연구는 학생들이 문법의 통사론적 특징과 함께 의미론적 원리를 함께 배운다면 어려운 문법을 좀 더 쉽게 배우리라는교육적 함축을 보여주기 위해 귀납적으로 연구의 내용을 전개했다. 그것의 예로서이 연구는 학생들이 의미론적 고려 없이 기계적으로 암기해 왔던 THINKING 유형의 동사와 그 동사가 취하는 보문들을 선택했다. 마지막으로 이 연구는 학교 문법교육 시간에서 학생들이 더 나은 문법의 이해를 위해 의미론적 설명과 함께 동사가 선택할지 모르는 보문들을 설명하고 아울러 동사의 의미와 보문의 의미 사이에 의미론적 결합 속성을 학생들에게 설명한다면 학생들이 쉽게 문법을 이해하고더 흥미를 가질 것이라 주장한다.
Abstract
This study explored Dixon's (1991) theoretical framework in order tounderstand school grammar on semantic principles. It also tried to explain thesemantic weakness of the school grammar learned in a high school or auniversity on Dixon's approach method rather than to ignore the insight of otherscholar's grammar. It worked inductively to show educational implication that ifstudents learn the semantic principles with syntactic properties of grammar, theywill understand it more easily. So, as its example, this study chose THINKINGTYPE verbs and their complements which students have memorized mechanicallywithout semantic consideration. This study argues that complement clauses averb may select must be explained to students on the semantic mapping betweenthe meaning of the verb and the meaning of the complement construction fortheir better understanding of grammar.
