Abstract
This essay is an attempt to discuss the problem of the relation of art to philosophy in Hegel's Music Aesthetics. In his 「Lectures on the Aesthetics」 discusses Hegel the historical development of the various types of art on the basis of his system of ideas metaphors. In addition, this work attempts to examine and reinterpret Adorno's analyzes of music and society in his works on the basis of his critical examination of the Dialectic of Enlightenment. Adorno considers the social contents, functions, and contexts of music materials in relation to their functions as products of music. In terms of culture industry, music is a cultural product that pursues profit through socio-economic production and production relations. The ideas in Hegel's music aesthetics and Adorno's sociology of music suggest that a new paradigm for contemporary times is needed to discuss contemporary art where the past paradigm is no longer valid. Adorno analyzes how musical materials and the contents of music relate to society. It also discusses the social mechanisms of production, distribution and consumption of musical compositions. Hegel's and Adorno's ideas have implications for contemporary art, art management and art policy.
