리빙랩(Living Labs) 방식을 활용한 통일교육: Y 대학 ‘남북한관계론’ 수업 사례

본 연구는 기업인⋅공공기관 관계자⋅학자⋅시민 등 다양한 주체가 모여 협업을 통해 혁신적 방법으로 문제를 해결하는 활동으로 주목 받고 있는 리빙랩(Living Labs) 방식을 활용한 통일교육의 과정, 효과성 및 함의를 살펴보는 데에 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 리빙랩 방식을 통해 통일⋅북한 수업을 진행한 Y 대학의 ‘남북한관계론’ 수업을 살펴보았다. Y 대학 ‘남북한관계론’ 수업은 통일 이후 발생할 문제를 해결하는 리빙랩 활동을 문제점 발견 → 문제 발생의 원인 제시 → 해결책 제안 → 실험 설계 → 실험의 기대효과 제시와 같은 5단계를 통해 실시하였다. 5개 조로 나눠서 리빙랩 활동을 전개한 결과 학생들의 남북한관계론 전공지식 이해도가 상승했고 통일인식에도 의미 있는 변화가 발생한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 통일 및 북한 문제를 보다 현실적이고 구체적으로 인지하게 되었으며 협업능력, 문제해결력, 창의력도 신장된 것으로 나타났다. 이처럼 높은 교육효과를 거둘 수 있는 리빙랩 방식을 활용한 통일교육이 더욱 확대되기 위해서는 통일⋅북한 문제를 다루는 사회과학 분야의 교수 등 전문가가 리빙랩에 관심을 가지는 한편 학생들에게 리빙랩 활동의 효과를 적극적으로 홍보할 필요가 있다.
Abstract
This study tried to examine the process, effectiveness, and implications of unification education using the living lab process, an activity in which various actors such as businessmen, public officials, scholars, and citizens have collaborated to solve problems innovatively. To this end, this study examined the living lab class of inter-Korean relations at Y University. Students in the class have taken living lab activities following the five steps: finding problems that may occur after unification on the Korean peninsula → presenting the cause of the problem → suggesting solutions → building experimental designs → presenting the expected outcomes of the experiment. This study found that students’ understanding of inter-Korean relations has increased and their prospects of unification have changed significantly after their living lab activities. It also found that they take the issues of inter-Korean relations more realistically than before taking a living lab class. In addition, students’ collaboration and problem-solving skills, and creativity have also been improved. Experts in the social science field, where unification and North Korean issues belong, need to pay much attention to living labs and actively promote the effects of living lab activities to students to expand unification education further using the living lab process.
