Abstract
This study analyzes the efficiency and environmental sustainability of the first-mile logistics support demonstration project for small businesses in Incheon. Additionally, it examines the expected workforce and carbon emissions if the project expands into a multi-modal logistics support system. This service is a policy aimed at enhancing the logistics competitiveness of small businesses. Therefore, this study analyzes the current operational processes and explores improvement strategies to provide reference indicators for similar future policies. Furthermore, through simulations, the study investigates the anticipated changes in carbon emissions and workforce requirements when introducing currently absent subway logistics and pedestrian collection systems. As a research method, first-mile logistics data as of June 10, 2024, were collected, including vehicle allocation status, pickup truck driving distance, number of operations, and small business demand. The analyzed data were then compared with optimized values to derive an efficient vehicle dispatch scenario. Additionally, the study identifies small businesses that could utilize a multi-modal logistics support system and, through simulations, estimates workforce changes and carbon emissions upon service introduction. Ultimately, this study aims to optimize vehicle routing for sustainable logistics services and provide operational insights for the potential expansion of multi-modal logistics demonstration projects.
