Abstract
The resurrection faith has been served as a key theological foundation of Christian religion since it evolved dynamically in a variety of motifs from the New Testament period. For example, the apostle Paul dealt with the related issues on the resurrection of human body raised in his Christian communities in an apologetic manner throughout his epistles(esp. 1Thess 4:13-17; 1Cor 15; 2Cor 5:1-10), while wrestling with the following questions: How does the Christian who died before Jesus’ parousia turn out to be in his/her eschatological destiny?; Is it really true that the dead body of a Christian believer rises up to live again? If so, in what kind of body is he/she resurrected?; where and in what kind of life does a dead believer remain to be in the interim period between natural body and spiritual body? In several decades later, the Gospel narratives develop some Christian motifs of resurrection in continuity or discontinuity with Judaism tradition, focusing on Jesus’ teaching on resurrection and his resurrection stories. In particular, the narrative authors(including Jesus) paid attention to who are worthy of resurrection, and what is the substantial nature of the so-called ‘spiritual body’ as distinctive from the present natural body. All in all, these conceptualizing motifs of resurrection entangled with one another show a dynamic trajectory in which early Christian communities developed their religious identity in response to what is the final destiny after death.
