덕 윤리로 읽는 사회적 영성과 성품화를 위한 과제

팬데믹 이후에 한국기독교는 무엇을 회복해야 하는가? ‘잘되는 영성’으로의 회귀가 아니라, 예수 그리스도의 제자도에 근거한 ‘사회적 영성’의 복원이어야 한다. 특히, 한국기독교가 공감, 환대, 책임, 소통의 결여를 시민사회로부터 지탄받고 있다는 점에 주목해야 한다. 공감과 환대의 윤리에 관한 논의는 다양하게 전개되고 있으며 이에 대한 기독교의 반향과 관심 또한 활발하다. 레비나스와 데리다의 통찰은 인문학 및 신학의 집중조명을 받고 있다. 나아가, 교회의 공공성을 구현하기 위하여 책임과 소통의 문제에 관심할 필요가 있다. 이 글은 공감, 환대, 책임, 소통을 사회적 영성이라는 이름으로 풀어내고 시민사회의 제자윤리로 제언하고자 덕 윤리적 접근을 시도한다. 덕 윤리가 성품화 문제에 주목한다는 점에서, 예수 내러티브에 충실한 성품의 함양을 강조한 하우어워스를 응용한다. 복음의 사회적 증인됨을 통한 제자도에 주목한다는 점에서 의의가 크다. 무엇보다도, 공감, 환대, 책임, 소통에 대한 인식의 전환을 추구한다. 시민사회가 요청하는 부담스러운 이슈들로 간주할 것이 아니라 제자도에 담긴 가치로 인식하여 시민사회의 제자윤리를 구현해야 한다. 이러한 맥락에서, 이 글은 사회적 영성에 관한 덕 윤리적 논의를 통하여 두 가지 질문에 주목한다. (1)무엇을 성품화 할 것인가? 한국기독교는 공감, 환대, 책임, 소통의 시민적 가치들을 예수 그리스도의 제자됨을 위한 성품화의 과제로 인식해야 한다. 공감의 윤리에 관한 기독교적 인식, 신적 덕목으로서의 환대에 관한 성찰, 교회의 공적 책임에 관한 이해, 그리고 공공성에 기반한 소통에 관심해야 한다. (2)어떻게 성품화 할 것인가? 사회적 영성의 성품화를 위하여, 덕 윤리의 방법론과 누스바움의 텍스트 읽기 등을 응용할 필요가 있다. 특히, 하우어워스가 교회의 펀더멘탈에 주목하면서 예전의 본질적 회복을 강조했던 점을 참고하여 한국기독교의 제자훈련과 접맥시킬 필요가 있다. 예수 내러티브에 충실한 제자도를 통해 시민사회의 제자윤리를 구현하기 위해서이다.
Abstract
There are various discussions on empathy and hospitality, and Christian concern on these issues are also active. Levinas and Derrida’s insights are receiving the spotlight in the humanities and theology, and issues of empathy and hospitality have emerged as a matter of keen interest through social disasters in Korea. In this context, it is necessary not only to accept empathy and hospitality as concerns of Christian ethics, but also to pay attention to ‘social spirituality’, encompassing issues of public responsibility and communication. This article attempts a virtue ethical approach to social spirituality. Unlike the perspective of civic duties, this paper approaches in the context of cultivating disciple’s character. In Hauerwas’s Christian virtue ethics, which emphasized the cultivation of character faithful to Jesus narrative from the perspective of disciple, is applied. From the point of view of virtue ethics, there are two questions: ‘what is to cultivating disciple’s character?’ and ‘how to cultivating disciple’s character?’. (1)Korean Christianity should recognize the civil values of empathy, hospitality, responsibility, and communication as the task of cultivating characters of Jesus Christ’s discipleship. Attention should be paid to Christian perceptions of the ethics of empathy, reflection on hospitality as a divine virtue, understanding the church's public responsibility, and communication as a discourse ethics based on publicness. (2)In order to cultivating social spirituality, it should be connected with the training of disciples of Korean Christianity, noting that Hauerwas paid attention to the fundamentals of the church and emphasized the essential restoration of worship, it should be connected with the disciple training of Korean Church.
