초록
In the era of missions from everywhere to everywhere, Korean missionaries meet and need to work with both western and non-western missionaries. While there are some studies on Korean missionaries’ relationship with western missionaries, few studies are devoted to the relationship between Korean and non-western missionaries. This study seeks to bring light to the self-understanding of early Korean cross-cultural missionaries and its implications for today. With the assumption that the experience of some early Korean cross-cultural missionaries is similar to that of non-western missionaries today, I employ the self-understanding of early Korean cross-cultural missionaries to understand the thoughts and emotion of Majority World’s missionaries who are minority in the international missionary community. I chose Chanyoung Choi, Soonil Kim, and Jaeok Chun and highlighted their perceptions on how they percieved themselves as non-western missionaries and their relationship with Western missionaries and with the local people. Then, I used their perceptions as the emic view in seeking an understanding for Majority World’s missionaries and categorized it.
