A clear understanding about the native’s cultural, religious and contextual surrounding is very important as a missionary. The gospel spoken and shared by a missionary must be understandable and is a key for missions. The message understood by a missionary has to be “worn” according to the culture. If we do not consider this, then the gospel will not be accepted even though it has the power, the purity and the preciousness. Otherwise how much of the gospel is understood according to their own ways is a most important thing to a modernized and westernized missionary. But in spite of it, a missionary has to do his best to understand the peoples’ culture, language and life style. However, due to the influences of post modernism and pluralism, side effects are following up in succession. For example there is a current style of worship; pastors, priests and Buddhist monks gathering together for worship. They perform one by one and call upon their own gods. It is traditional post modernized pluralism and it is usually adverse. A missionary has to take care of the seriousness of this style of interfaith worship. How much do we accept their culture and idea of gods? As a biblical theologian, I willingly apply the Bible to interpret the culture of others. But how many realms are acceptable? If I consider one context more deeply than another, they will regard me as a secularist, if I don't consider the context; they will reproach me as a fundamentalist. That is why the contextualization is not easy. In this article, I tried to deal with three viewpoints, One is the ‘non contextualization’, the other one is ‘contextualization’, and another one is ‘critical contextualization’. I adopted the Old Testament stories according to three viewpoints. Finally I suggest the importance of critical contextualization on a mission field is evangelization.
