Abstract

This paper focuses on a german film <Once Upon a Time in Germany…>, which was produced in Germany in 2017. The reason is that this is a film about the survivors of the Holocaust, but as the title of the movie "Once Upon a Time…" suggests, it is the first time in Holocaust film history that it borrowed genre fairytale. What makes this movie different from the existing Holocaust movies is that it does not try to reproduce of past, that they have experienced, even when they are talking about the survivors. Of course, it is a movie, but the movie appeals to the ears rather than the eyes of the audience. Unbelievable episodes are transmitted to the audiences' ears through the mouths of characters. This characteristic is not irrelevant to the fact that the film has accepted the form of fairy tales. The main story of this film is summarized as "a surviving story" of David Bermann, The story of this Berman is the central narrative, and the story of his six people is linked to the epic line of narrative In addition, the film uses the interrogation as a device to produce the story. And the fact that all of the stories expressed through it are in the form of a fairy tale that tells about what happened in "olden days in Germany". It make the audience suspect, that it does not have the impure intent to replace it with a fairy tale that no longer exists. But as the story of Cinderella becomes a transcendental educational story, the moment the story becomes a form of fairy tale, the story becomes universal and, as a result, It is not Germany, nor is it the old days. At this point in time, it can repeat and repeat anywhere in the world. In this way, the Holocaust film <Once upon a time in Germany> borrowed the fairy tale genre and transformed the story of Bearman and the six survivors into a universal story that anyone could experience. For this reason, Holocaust film <Once upon a time in Germany> can be evaluated as a film that overcomes the Holocaust boredom and presents new possibilities to continue to talk about it.
