구약성경의 헤렘(Herem)과 이슬람의 지하드 비교 연구

최근 과격해지는 이슬람의 지하드는 성전(聖戰)이라는 개념을 넘어서 같은 종파간의 주도권 다툼이나 서방세계에 대한 극단적 증오의 형태로 변질되고 있다. 또한 지하드의 양상도 테러와 전쟁의 양상에서 웹사이트를 이용하거나 할랄음식과 같은 매우 근대적이고 감성적인 방법으로 진화하고 있다. 이에 따라서 지하드에 대한 사람들의 관심 역시 증가되고 있는 추세다. 구약성경에도 신의 이름으로 자행되는 전쟁인 ‘헤렘’이 있다. 헤렘 역시 완전한 파괴와 살육을 전제로 이루어지는 전쟁인데 그래서 종종 헤렘과 지하드가 매우 유사한 전쟁이라고 생각을 하기도 한다. 물론 구약성경의 헤렘과 이슬람의 지하드는 신의 이름으로 실시되는 전쟁으로서 유사한 점을 많이 가지고 있다. 전쟁의 의미, 목적, 방법, 보상이 그 내용은 다르지만 확실하게 보장되어 있고 전쟁의 승패 여부가 신의 뜻에 달려 있다. 그러나 그 내부로 들어가 보면 지하드와 헤렘은 출발점부터 완전히 다른 것을 알 수 있다. 이 글은 지하드와 헤렘을 유사한 전쟁으로 보려는 사람들의 관점을 반대하면서 헤렘에 대한 오해를 해소하는데 있다. 또한 지하드의 최근 양상을 살펴보고 향후 우리가 어떤 방식으로 대응해야 할지에 대한 숙제를 함께 풀기 위한 시도로 연구되었다.
Abstract
There are similarities between Islamic Jihad and Herem in the Old Testament. Both are related to religious wars which occur in God’s name. Many people are confused by the similarities between the biblical Herem with the Islamic Jihad because of their destructive power. A few verses about Herem in the OT deal with strong destruction of others. It looks dangerous and destructive. Some anti-Christian people add more to this debate with examples like Joshua 6, Exodus 17, and Numbers 21. However, the Herem and Jihad are totally different. To prove this, I tried to compare the characteristics, method of war and reward between the two wars. Herem is war passed by God himself. The goals of Herem are four in total: a. total destruction and defeat, b. keeping God’s promises. c, a war of idol worshippers. In comparison, the Jihad was carried to get rid of one’s bad desire or to follow the Koran. However, it has spread to a deeper and wider meaning. Initially it was accepted for defense but it has developed towards the offence of non-Muslims. Nowadays it has developed into international terrorism. In chapter 1, I introduced my article methodology. In chapter 2, I described the Herem with its conditions, principles, characteristics and categories. And in chapter 3, I tried to introduce the Jihad with its characteristics, steps and recent trends. And in chapter 4, I compared two wars through their meaning, goals and customs, and reward after wars.
