한국 인터넷 언론 공론장의 양면성: 공론장의 재강화와 약화의 갈림길

이 연구는 언론과 민주주의와의 관계에 주목하여 인터넷 언론 공론장의 특성과 함의를 분석하고자 했다. 세부적 분석 기준은 하버마스(Habermas)가 제시한 이념화된 공론장의 조건을 바탕으로 현재 한국 인터넷 공론장의 가능성과 위험요인을 양면성으로 제시하였다. 분석 결과, 첫째, 한국의 인터넷 언론 공론장은 참여적인 개방성을 가지고 있으며, 독립적이고 상호주관적인 논쟁의 공간으로 발전했다. 둘째, 인터넷 언론은 기존 오프라인 언론과 함께 인터넷 공론장의 주요한 정보공급자이자, 중개자, 수렴자 역할을 하고 있다. 셋째, 인터넷 언론의 공론장 활성화 요인은 인터넷 정치토론장의 형성과 이해관계의 통합이었다. 반면, 한국의 인터넷 언론 공론장을 약화할 수 있는 요소도 확인할 수 있었다. 그것은 인터넷 언론 공론장의 이념적 분극화, 플랫폼 종속, 플랫폼의 알고리즘 필터 버블 등이었다. 이 요인들은 한국 인터넷 언론 공론장의 양면성으로 공론장의 분화와 수렴 과정을 설명하고 있다.
Abstract
This research paper focused on the relationship between the media and democracy and tried to analyze the influence and implications of the structure of the Internet media and democracy, especially the public sphere. As for the detailed analysis criteria, based on the conditions of the public sphere suggested by Habermas, the possibility and risk factors of democracy consolidation in the current Korean Internet public sphere were examined. As a result of the analysis, first, the public sphere of the Internet media in Korea has participatory openness and has developed into a space for independent and intersubjective debate. Second, the Internet media, along with the offline media, are the main information providers, intermediaries, and converging agents of the Internet public sphere. Third, the factors that revitalized the public sphere of the Internet media were the formation of the Internet political forum and the integration of interests.
