Abstract

This paper is to examine the characteristics of the era of cultural convergence and to explore the direction of education corresponding to it. In particular, it is to discuss the value and utility of convergence education and to prepare preparations and alternatives for convergence education. Cultural convergence is a concept called for by the fourth industrial revolution. The convergence paradigm of digital technology revolution such as AI, Internet of Things, and big data is affecting society and culture and calling for big changes in education. This paper explains an element that creates cultural convergence. Its communication of value, communication of knowledge and technology, communication of language meaning(semantic language), communication of art and communication of media. We looked at how they work in cultural convergence and how they are affected by cultural convergence. In addition, this study examines and analyzes the psychological process of individuals experiencing the process of cultural convergence from daily cultural experience. It was found that self-directedness toward the experience and the desire to synthesize the experience approached cultural convergence. In the era of cultural convergence, the two directions of education are emphasized. One is to consider the power of language’s convergence more importantly. The other is to help the ecology of cultural convergence and the learner’s learning ecology to respond. In order for Korean language education to develop in the era of cultural convergence, the total language experiences experienced by learners must be linked to cultural experiences. In addition, the mechanism of convergence of experience should be utilized to make meaningful use of the contents and methods of Korean language education.
