본 연구는 어머니 역할을 발달심리학적 관점에서 문화적 모델로 옮겨, 인간의 학습과 인지과정을 문화인지 과정으로 문화적 맥락에서 설명하고자 하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 다문화가족의 식사의례에서 베트남 결혼이주여성의 어머니 역할 문화인지와 혼종성을 탐색하기 위한 것이다. 이를 위해 D시에 거주하는 사회경제적 지위가 비슷한 유아기와 아동기 자녀를 양육하는 베트남 결혼이주여성 8명을 대상으로 두 차례 초점집단면담을 실시하고 그 결과를 해석학적 현상학으로 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 어머니 역할의 문화인지는 첫째, ‘편안한 식사 분위기 메이커: 체화된 여성의 역할’ 둘째, ‘아이가 좋아하는 음식 만들기: 돌봄의 연행’ 셋째, ‘베트남 음식과 언어 가르치기: 다문화 정체성’ 넷째, ‘친구같은 엄마로 대화하기: 좋은 엄마 이미지’로 나타났다. 다음으로, 어머니 역할의 문화 혼종성은 ‘사랑과 독립의 균형’, ‘예절과 편리함의 가치 융합’으로 나타났다. 이를 통해 베트남 결혼이주여성의 주체적인 문화적 실천으로서 어머니 역할과 지원 방안에 대해 논의하였다.
Abstract
This study seeks to reinterpret mothering from a developmental psychological perspectives as a cultural model, aiming to explain human learning and cognitive processes as cultural-cognitive processes situated within cultural contexts. This study aimed to explore the cultural identity and hybridity of the mothering of Vietnamese marriage immigrant women in the mealtime rituals of multicultural families. The study conducted focus group interviews with eight Vietnamese marriage immigrant women who are raising children in their early childhood and school-age years, residing in City D, and the results were analyzed using hermeneutic phenomenology. The findings revealed as following themes: first, creating a comfortable mealtime atmosphere: a embodied role of women; second, cooking the child’s favorite food: the enactment of caregiving; third, teaching Vietnamese food and language: multicultural identity; and fourth, communicating like a friend: the image of a good mother. The hybridity of the mothering was evident in ‘the balance between love and independence’, and ‘the fusion of values of etiquette and convenience’. This study discusses the mothering as a agentive cultural practice of Vietnamese marriage immigrant women and suggests support strategies.
