Abstract

A well-known novelist Hwang Soon-won, produced numerous pieces of children’s literature in his juvenile years. Most of them are children’s song(童謠)(children’s poem(童詩)), but he also left children’s novel(少年小說) and play(兒童劇), confirming that he had vigorously worked in the field of children’s literature. This study on children’s literature of Hwang Soon-won clarifies the following research problems.: First, it identifies Hwang Soon-won’s debut piece, which had been controversial until today. Next, to confirm whole work of Hwang Soon-won’s literary activity, this study clarifies every pen names he had used. Hwang Man-gang(Man-gang, 黃晩崗(晩崗, 晩岡)), Hwang Gwang-pa(Gwang-pa, Gwang-pa-saeng, 黃狂波(狂波, 狂波生)), and Hwang Gwan-jo(Gwan-jo, 黃關鳥(關鳥)) and others, are identified as Hwang Soon-won’s pen name by this study. Through this, all of Hwang Soon-won’s children’s literary works is made into a list. As it was common for juvenile writers in those days, Hwang Soon-won’s plagiarism on others’ work is also found. Clarification on these cases concerns the need to rectify overweighed appraisal on study of the writer and of the work about the juvenile novel Chu- eok(reminiscence, 「追憶」) and the others. This research will become an important foundation when studying Hwang Soon-won’s children’s literature henceforth. Further, it will have a significant influence on study of writer on Hwang Soon-won. Detailed study on Hwang Soon-won’s children’s literary work will be done in succeeding study.
