김춘수는 누구보다도 존재와 언어 문제에 대해 깊이 사유하고 또 집요하게 사유한 시인이다. 그리고 그는 한국의 근현대시사에 있어, 언어가 존재 문제에 대해 행사할 수 있는 권리능력이 무엇이며 또한 이와 관련된 권리한계는 무엇인가 하는 문제에 대해 정면으로 마주한 거의 최초의 시인이라고 할 수 있을 것이다. 김춘수는 보편의 존재를 한 번도 의심하지 않았다. 그러나 언어를 통해 그것의 의미가 무엇인지를 자명하게 드러낼 수 있을지를 회의했다. 그는 보편을 더듬을 언어의 권리능력을 인정했지만 언어가 끝내 보편에 가닿지 못할 것이라는 권리한계를 승인했다. 그러나 겉으로 보아 보편으로부터의 도피로 보이는 그의 시적 여정 내부에는 보편을 향하는 길이 항상 내장되어 있었다. 김춘수에게 “자유”가 ‘한계 속의 되풀이’이듯이 그가 꿈꾸는 “언어로부터의 해방”은 상승과 하강의 반복을 통해 불가능의 경계를 밀고가는 운동이다. 그에게 언어는 보편의 의미를 관장하는 만능의 열쇠나 특수자들의 그물이 아니라 끊임없이 존재와 존재자 사이의 상승과 하강을 중재하는 하나의 열린 길이었다.
Abstract
The present study examines the distinctive features of Kim, Choon－soo's poetic language. Also, this study examines how his attitude toward poetic language had developed. In other words, this study aims at showing how Kim, Choon－soo's language consciousness had changed and come to an exclusive vision. In the earlier poems, Kim, Choon－soo had expected that his poetic language could reflect the universal. He wanted to express the aspects of 'Sein'(Heidegger). However, he could only face the gap between 'Sein' and 'Seiendem'. After that period, Kim, Choon－soo turned back to the universal, 'Sein', and he tried to focus on the appearances of the things. If we explain this turning point by the terms of Hans Georg Gafamer, we could say that Kim, Choon－soo took the way down('Weg hinab') to 'Seiendem' instead of the way up('Weg hinauf') to 'Sein'. However, that was not the eventual answer. Finally, Kim, Choon－soo tried to synthesize those two ways. He realized that the important mission bestowed on the poetic language is to mediate both ends. In later poems Kim, Choon－soo showed that the poetic language could aim at the universal, and simultaneously explore all the details of the individual things.
