이 논문은 김현 초기 비평에서 ‘만남’이라는 주제가 핵심적인 기저동기로 작용하고 있다는 점을 논구하고 그 원인을 찾아보고자 한다. 그 과정에서 ‘만남’은 김현의 후기 비평에까지 가장 중요한 ‘태도’로 작용하였다는 점을 확인하는 한편, 1960-70년대 한국 비평의 자장 안에서 ‘만남’이라는 명제는 매우 희귀한 아이디어였지만 또한 시대적 맥락 속에서 필연적으로 대두되어야 했을 ‘제안’이었다는 것을 밝히게 되었다. 즉 1960-70년대 한국인과 한국사회를 전면적으로 추동하던 ‘주체성을 향한 열망’이 역설적이게도 서양의 개념 혹은 이론을 과도하게 숭앙하게 되는 모순 혹은 자가당착에 빠지고 마는 문제를 깨달은 김현이 그런 모순을 타개하기 위한 대안을 모색하던 중에 발견술적으로 고안한 명제로서 만남이 제출되었던 것이다. 본고는 김현이 그런 결론에 이르는 데에 무엇보다도 자신의 문학적 논리를 반성적으로 되돌아보는 작업이 수반되었다는 점에 주목하여, 그의 시론이 『존재의 언어』에서 『상상력과 인간』에서 변모하게 되는 경로와 양상을 중점적으로 살펴보았다.
Abstract
This article aims at investigating the emergence of a proposition ‘Encounter’ in Kim Hyun’s Poetics, taking notice that this concept has been operating enduringly as the leitmotiv in his entire criticism and theoretical works. As the result, I discovered the fact that Kim Hyun had realized the self-contradiction of the national desire towards the subjecthood of the Koreans during the 1960-70s, i.e., that more attached to their own identity, more subjected to the Occidental theories. In front of this predicament, Kim Hyun raised the proposition ‘Encounter’ upon the recognition of the severality and the mutuality of all the beings so as to resolve both the backwardness and the autistic fantasy of the Korean Intellectuals. In fact, his enlightenment came along with the transformation of his literary perspective from the formalism to the phenomenological intention on the process of which this article concentrates.
