Abstract
The Internet has greatly impacted every way of life over the past decade, including education, while ubiquitous computing will play an important role in future language teaching. Given this trend, the purpose of this paper is twofold: One is to introduce what ubiquitous computing is, including technical aspects that make it possible for language teaching. The other is to anticipate and guide ubiquitous technology as an ESL tool for language teaching. In this latter regard, the researcher mentions insightful perspectives of the four language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) as they pertain to pervasive computing. Plausible changes within the educational environment are reviewed from the perspectives of students and teachers. It is recommended that further research is needed to ascertain advantages and disadvantages of utilizing ubiquitous networks for teaching/learning English in Korea.
