Abstract

This study was conducted to highlight the importance of brushing by examining the most basic and important knowledge level of brushing for adults living in Taean, Chungcheongnam-do, some rural areas and to prepare basic data to plan oral hygiene management education for adults in the future by cultivating correct knowledge about brushing and to provide a practical basis for planning oral health projects. For data analysis, using SPSS/Win 25.0 frequency analysis was conducted for general characteristics, characteristics related to brushing and knowledge questions related to brushing and x2-test was conducted for brushing time(on a one-time basis), brushing areas and whether oral hygiene supplements were used according to general characteristics. The most common was brushing after meals, the most common was brushing before bedtime and the average number of times per day was 3 times. The most common method of brushing was the rotation method, the number of toothbrush exchanges was three times in a year and the correct answer rate of the questionnaire in knowledge related to brushing was the highest at 93.1percent after healthy gums were related to brushing. In terms of brushing time, men with less than two minutes were high at 46.7percent, women with less than three minutes at 59.6percent, women with less than three minutes at 42.6percent, 300-399 million won with less than two minutes at 56.2percent and more than 4 million won at 37.5percent. In the toothbrushing area, production workers were high at 61.5percent for teeth and tongue, manufacturing was high at 44.7percent and service was high at 43.3percent for teeth and gums. In terms of the use of oral hygiene supplements, men were not used at 64.2percent, women were used at 79.8percent, women were used at 52.9percent, 300-399 million won was not used at 56.2percent and use of more than 4 million won was high at 72.9percent. Since the cause of oral diseases continues to occur throughout human life, it is necessary to repeatedly manage them throughout life, and for this purpose, it is necessary to recognize the importance of brushing and to prevent possible oral diseases by continuously educating each individual on how to brush their teeth.
