한국 뮤지컬 연구-<지하철 1호선>을 중심으로-

이 연구의 목적은 뮤지컬 <지하철 1호선>의 대중코드 분석을 통해 한국 뮤지컬이 해외 유명뮤지컬과의 경쟁에서 경쟁우위를 갖고 자생할 수 있는 방법을 제시해 보는 데 있다. 연구 결과 첫째 <지하철 1호선>은 이야기 텍스트의 구조에서뿐 아니라 형식 텍스트 구조에서도 우리 전통 연희가 지향했던 긴장과 이완이라는 순환구조를 갖고 있음을 알 수 있었다.둘째, 주체의 대상에 대한 명확한 목표와 그에 대한 성취 혹은 실패는 작품의 주제를 명시적으로 드러내 주어 관객들의 공감을 얻어내는 데 일조한다는 사실을 알 수 있었다.셋째, <지하철 1호선>에서 중요하게 부각되고 있는 인물군상 역시 이야기 전체 구조 안에서 긴장과 이완을 반복한다는 사실을 알 수 있었다. 지하철 밖의 인물군상이 절망적이고 우울한 현실을 통해 관객들의 긴장을 유발하는 역할을 한다면 지하철 안의 인물군상은 풍자를 통해 관객들의 웃음을 유발함으로써 이완을 유발하는 역할을 한다.결국 주체의 대상에 대한 명확한 목표와 이야기 텍스트와 형식 텍스트, 등장인물의 성격 구성을 통한 긴장과 이완의 반복 순환구조는 여전히 한국인들의 심성을 자극하는 가장 대중적인 코드임을 알 수 있다.
Abstract
The present study purposed to read the popular codes unique to musical <Subway Line 1>, which has been performed long for over 13 years and continued to be hailed by the audience. For this, we examined the process of meaning formation through analyzing the structure of musical <Subway Line 1>, and inquired into the desires and objects of subjects and the meanings of people in and around the subway, which are described most empathetically in the musical. According to the results of this study, first, not only the internal text but also the external form of musical <Subway Line 1> has a cyclic structure of tension and relaxation that was pursued by Korean traditional plays. Second, as to the desires and objects of the subjects, the subjects’ clear goals and the obvious achievement or failure contribute to manifesting the theme of the musical and winning the audience’s sympathy. Third, in <Subway Line 1>, the meanings of people groups are highlighted very significantly. The figures are largely divided into passengers inside the subway and those in spaces around the subway. Like the overall structure of <Subway Line 1>, while those outside the subway cause tension in the audience, those inside the subway make the audience experience relaxation. After all, although time passes and people who we meet change, the subjects’ clear goals toward objects and the repetitive cyclic structure of tension and relaxation through internal text and form must be the most popular codes stimulating Korean people’s mentality.
