한 지식인의 초상 - ‘구보씨’ 서사 관견 -

Abstract

Ever since the '87 regime,' namely, the 'democratization,' the failure in substance and the crisis of democracy has urged us to ask again what an intellectual is all about, how the role of intellectuals and the realities unique to Korea are to be understood. This paper explores how the Mr. Koobo's generation encountered or steered clear of the tasks of his time about which his generation is concerned and has in common, and put down in writing the vestige of history, through the serial work of Mr. Koobo, who lived as an intellectual through the life's ordeal in the modern and contemporary history that covers an era from the colonial days through the division structure all the way down to the democratic age. This paper comes to the conclusion that the crisis of democracy after the democratization is in relation with cold war conservatism stubbornly rooted in the Korean society, and it is the case with today's realities, too. Finally, we hope to look straight sharply at how the experience of colonial days and the situation of the territorial division that is penetrating the Korea's modern history is deeply rooted in field of intellect and day-to-day structure through Mr. Koobo's serial work.
