Abstract

The purposes of this study were to characterize the later poems of Lee Won-su(1964-1981) as the ‘world of affection and con- templation’, analyze each of the poems closely, and examine the trends of his later poems for children as ‘poems that children can feel’. In 1964, Lee started to sing about the ‘world of ardent affection’ that stood at a very different position from his early and middle poems and published his new poem Contemplation in Deep Thinking. In his poems from the early ones to the later ones, the speakers took the combined viewpoint between children and the poet. In his later works, however, he wrote more poems in which the speaker took the viewpoint of poet rather than that of children. Most of his later poems were difficult, and some of them were distant from the boundary of poetry for children. His later poems can be dubbed as ‘poems that can be given to children’ and ‘poems that children can feel’ by taking one step further from ‘poems for children’, which is a ‘common concept of poetry for children’. He expanded the topics of poetry for children from ‘children's life(including movements and language)’ to everything in the world that children can feel. This is a expanding the boundary of poetry for children. The present study closely delved into his later poems based on the boundary expansion of poetry for children and the theory of poetry for children as poems that children can feel.
