Abstract
This study is designed to find out how comments affect readers. This study produced a virtual newspaper article that natural gas was found in the East Sea. Then, we compared and analyzed the perception of 81 college student readers when they provided the article without positive and negative comments or comments. As a result of the study, it was found that comments have an effect when the reader determines whether the information in the text is true, and especially when the reader is not well aware of the information contained in the text. In addition, the tendency of comments that the reader recognized for the first time continues to affect the reader, and among them, negative comments have a greater influence than positive comments. However, if the content of the text was related to the background that the reader already had, the reader tended to rely more on the background he had than on the comments. This study suggests that critical reading of comments needs to be treated as important in reading education, as comments can have a significant impact on text interpretation especially for readers who lack background. In addition, it was also suggested that readers who were first exposed to negative comments could maintain a wrong interpretation of the text as a basis for these claims.
