예비 초등 교사의 발음 실태 및 표준 발음에 대한 인식과 태도 연구

본 연구는 예비 초등 교사의 발음 실태와 표준 발음에 대한 인식 및 태도를 다각적으로 탐색하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 교육대학교 학생들을 대상으로, 자연 발화를 통한실제 발음 조사(1차), 단어별 표준 발음 지식 및 인식 조사(2차), 표준 발음 준수 태도조사(3차)를 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 예비 초등 교사들은 대체로 표준 발음의 필요성과 교육적 의의를 인식하고, 학생과의 일상적 대화에서도 표준 발음을 사용하여 바른 언어 사용의 본보기가 되어야 한다는 태도를 지니고 있었다. 그러나 ‘밟고’, ‘통닭을’, ‘흙을’처럼 표준 발음과 현실발음의 차이가 커 발화 부담이 큰 단어, ‘신기고’와 같이 비표준 발음이 일상화된 단어에대해서는 교정 의지가 낮았다. 또한 ‘해님’의 경우에는 표준성보다 어감과 정서적 효과를 우선시하는 태도가 관찰되었다. 이는 단어와 맥락에 따라 발음 수용 정도에 차이가 있음을 보여 주며, 예비 초등교사의 이러한 인식은 표준 발음 교육이 규범 습득에만 머물 경우, 교사 스스로 그 교육적 타당성을 인정하기 어려움을 시사한다. 따라서 예비 교사 양성 과정에서는 실제 언어 사용과 교육의 맥락에서 음운 관련 지식을 탐구하고 적용하는 과정을 강화하며, 언어자료 분석과 자신의 발음에 대한 메타적 성찰을 통해 발음의 규범성과 실제 사용의 관계를 비판적으로 이해하고, 표준 발음에 대한 이해와 수용의 기준 및 태도를 형성하도록돕는 교육이 필요하다.
Abstract
This study examined pre-service elementary teachers’ pronunciation patterns and their perceptions and attitudes toward standard pronunciation. Three surveys were conducted with students at universities of education: (1) analysis of natural speech, (2) assessment of knowledge and awareness of standard pronunciation, and (3) attitudes toward adherence to standard pronunciation. Results showed that pre-service teachers generally recognized the necessity and educational value of standard pronunciation and viewed it as a model for proper language use. However, the willingness to correct was low for words differing greatly between standard and common pronunciation (e.g., balp-go [밟고], tongdalg-eul [통닭을], heulg-eul [흙을]) or for widely used nonstandard forms (e.g., sin-gi-go [신기고]), while emotional preference affected choices such as hae-nim[해님]. These findings indicate that pronunciation education should move beyond rule-based instruction to foster reflective and critical awareness. Teacher education programs should therefore strengthen training that connects phonological knowledge to real language use and encourages self-examination of pronunciation in educational contexts.
