상호문화적 대화에서 타자의 관점 취하기 : 여성에 관한 쟁점을 중심으로

초록

이 글의 주제는 다문화 사회에서 생겨나는 집단문화의 갈등 중 특히 여성 관련 쟁점에 관해 살펴보는 것이다. 상이한 문화의 이해는 ‘관점의 가역성 ', 즉 나와 타자의 입장을 바꾸어보는 것에 의해 가능하다. 셀라 벤하비브와 아이리스 영은 의사소통이론의 맥락에서 ‘관점의 가역성’에 관해 논의한다. 벤하비브가 '관점의 가역성'에 근거해 상호이해를 도모한다면, 영은 '관점의 비가역성'에 근거해 타자이해를 역설하다. 하지만 '관점의 가역성'을 가정하면 문화적 차이가 간과되고, '관점의 비가역성'을 가정하면 문화 간 대화가 어려워 진다. 패트리샤 헌팅턴은 이 둘을 중재할 수 있는 상상력을 매개로 한 상호주관적 관점을 제시한다. 이러한 논쟁은 여성 쟁점을 포함하여 상호문화적 대화에 필요한, 이론적 기반과 실천적 토대를 제공한다.

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to investigate the issues about various cultual conflicts in multicultural society, especially drawing attention to the issue of women. Selya BenHabib and Iris Young have discussed the reversibility of perspectives in the context of communication theory. It indicates that the understanding of others’ cultures is possible by reversing the perspectives, that is, by adopting the position of the other. Benbabib pursues the mutual understanding based on the reversibility of perspectives. On the other hand, Young empathizes understanding others based on the irreversibility of perspectives. However, assuming the reversibility of perspectives may lead us to overlook cultural differences, whereas assuming the irreversibility of perspectives, can make intercultural dialogue difficult. Thus, Patricia Huntington proposes intersubjective perspectives mediated by ‘the imagination of intermediating the two’. While trying to harmonize the conflicting views aforementioned, this study provides a theoretical and practical basis for intercultural dialogue, including women's issues.
