Abstract

A S t u d y o f N i h i l i s m i n t h e L a t e 1 9 3 0 s K o r e a n N o v e l s ; G e o n g ,Hong-SeopThrough the nihilistic novels that forms a remarkable tendency in the late 1930s’ Korean literature, the sense of reality and the thinking method of which the core is the relation betwen people(or mas) vs. intelectuals apears in the foreground. Lee-kwangso’s sense of elitism and the chosen went forward to the level of narcissism in this period through the strengthened religious nihilism. Chae-manshik’s nihilistic novels were a result of the total despair which developed from his peculiar negative thinking and writing of which the core is satire. Among the new generation writers’ novels like Huh-joonㆍYoo-hanglimㆍChoi- myongik appears the characters in comon who have the strikingly strong self-consciousnes of intelectual, but there are some diferences among their writings acording to the attitude with which the writers deal the characters.
