본 연구의 목적은 김수영 문학과 번역의 연관성을 규명하는 데 있다. 이 연구의 관심은 「시작노트」의 ‘내 詩의 비밀은 내 번역을 보면 안다’는 의미심장한 한 구절에서 출발한다. 이를 증명하듯 과연 김수영의 시와 산문 곳곳에는 그가 독서하고 번역한 텍스트 와 용어들이 빈번하게 등장한다. 이러한 용어들은 김수영의 시적 사유의 본질을 알아내는 데 중요한 열쇠였지만, 그간 텍스트의 맥락 안에서는 속시원하게 풀어낼 수 없는 난해성에 갇혀 있었던 것이다. 그러나 ‘번역’을 연구하면 그 장막을 걷어낼 실마리를 얻는다. 그래서 시작된 것이 김수영의 번역과 독서 텍스트에 관한 연구이다 그에게 번역은 생계의 한 수단이기도 했으면서, 그 과정은 학습의 시간이기도 했다. 그는 독서와 번역을 통해서 거기서 배운 것은 창작 텍스트에 녹여내었다. 이처럼 김수영의 삶에 서 구현되는 이 ‘독서→번역→창작’이라는 연쇄고리는 바로 그가 얼마나 치열하게 삶을 꾸려갔는가를 증명해 주는 것이다. 예를 들면 우선 그에게 번역은 어떤 의미에서 창작된 산문, 시 텍스트 창작에 지식과 영감 을 제공하고, 동시에 텍스트에 생성된 여백을 채워줄 서브 텍스트의 역할을 한다. 이자벨라 버드 비숍의 텍스트 번역은 그에게 「거대한 뿌리」라는 역작을 낳게 한 “흥미와 영감을 주는 대상”, 즉 ‘새로운’ 감각과 사유의 원천이었다. 이를 김수영은 “이사벨 버드 비숍 여사 와 연애하고 있다”고 한 것이다. 또한 번역은 검열의 장막을 뚫고 “아무도 하지 못한 말”을 할 수 있는 ‘탈주’의 공간이기도 했다. 스티븐 마커스의 번역과 네루다 시의 번역은 이러한점을 증명해 준다. 번역이 단지 중립적이고 투명한 것, 즉 한 언어를 그대로 다른 언어로 ‘옮기는’ 행위가 아니라 문화적인 전환의 과정이며 또 다른 창조라도 한다면 이처럼 김수영에게 ‘독서→번 역→창작’이라는 연쇄고리는 ‘번역’이라는 기호가 본질적으로 지향해야 할, 시적인 경지를 완성시키는 과정이기도 한 것이다. 그 결과 김수영의 번역 행위의 지향점은 서구화도 토착화도 아닌, 그 경계를 뛰어넘는 자리 에 있었다. 김수영은 늘 동시대의 전위적인 세계와 소통하기를 희망했고, 그것이 가능하다 고 믿었다. “시”를 쓰는 순간에는 그는 후진국 지식인이 아닌, 그냥 “시인”이었다. 그가 지향했던 ‘시 그 자체’가 영원한 ‘혁명’으로 전환되는 그 기점에는 국경도 인종도 없을 것이기 때문이다. 이처럼 김수영의 시 텍스트를 분석하고 복잡하다 못해 영롱한 그의 의식 세계를 고찰하는 데 독서와 번역 연구는 실증적인 분석의 도구가 된다. 본고의 의미는 이러한 점을 좀 더 분명하게 밝힌 것이다.
Abstract
The purpose of this research is to clarify the relevance of literature and translation in Kim Su-young. This research is interested in the “Start Notes” of the secret of my Poetry know my translation, it is meaningful to a verse from. It is essential that study on translation of Kim Su-young for the purpose of study on the origin of Kimsu young’s litteraure The meaninge of this research is more clearly revealed this Fact. But still caused him to recognize the many challenges that remain in translation studies.
