1980년대 한국 사회는 대규모의 대중운동에 힘입어 권위주의 체제를 무너트리고이후 일정한 민주화 과정에 돌입하는 등 큰 변화를 겪었다. 1980년대 문학도 그에 상응하듯 이 우리 문학사에서 일정한 분수령적인 의미를 갖는다. 1970년대까지 우리 문학에서 중요한 비중을 차지하여 왔던 농민문학이 퇴조하고 이후 농촌을 배경으로 하는 문학은 계급적인 시각에서 농촌과 농민의 현실을 다루기보다는 생태주의적 상상력에 기반을 두게 된다. 1945~53년간 우리 민족이 겪은 비극인 분단이라는 제재에 천착해 온 분단문학은 1980년대에 정점에 달했다가 이후 점차 퇴조한다. 민족적인 정체성을 환기하는 문학들이 차례차례로 활력을 상실해간 것이다. 반면 1980년대부터 본격화되기 시작한 노동문학은 80년대적인 의미의 협소한 틀을 넘어서서 지속되는데, 이는 1990년대 이후 더욱 더 견고해진 계급 현실에 상응한다. 중산층 현실이 본격적으로 형상화되는 것도 자본주의 체제의 견고화에 따른 계급적 시각의 도입과 무관하지 않다. 한편 기존의 문학제도에 견인되지 않는 자발적인 아래로부터의 문학운동이 다양하게 펼쳐졌던 것이나, 체제와 대립하는 개인적 자유주의 문학이 본격화된 것도 1980년대 문학의 특징이라 할 수 있다.
Abstract
Korean society underwent a huge change during 1980’. Due to mass movement on large scale, the authoritarian regime was broken down and the gradual process of democratization has started. Accordingly, the Korean literature in 1980’ have a meaning of watershed in Korean modern literary history. The peasant literature having a relative importance in previous literary history was on the decline. Henceforth, the rural community has been the background of ecological imagination. The ‘division literature’, taking the key material from the division of Korea into north and south during 1945~1953, reached the peak in 1980’s literature and gradually lost the energy of creation after that time. On the other hand, the labor literature begun to be created in 1970’ was created earnestly in 1980’ and didn’t lose the energy of creation after 1990. The fact that the literature movement from below was developed very actively is a distinguishing mark of 1980’ literature. And the literature of individual liberalism apposing the social order was germinated in 1980’ and bloomed after 1990.
