이 연구는 김석범의 ‘조선적인 것’의 문학적 진실과 정치적 상상력을 이해하기 위해 세 가지 차원에서 『화산도』를 살펴보았다. 김석범에게 ‘조선적인 것’은 구미중심의 근대 내셔널리즘에 기반한 ‘국가 공동체’와 관련한 것, 말하자면 재일조선인으로서 조국의 민족적 정체성을 회복하기 위한 차원으로만 수렴되지 않는다. 이러한 면모는 『화산도』에서 제주 공동체의 독특한 풍속문화인 제사의례를 통해 해방공간에 대한 정치적 은유의 상징형식으로 작동한다. 이를 통해 제주 공동체를 폭력으로 압살하는 데 전위에 서 있던 서북청년단의 실체가 드러날 뿐만 아니라 그것에 조금도 굴복하지 않고 비타협하는 작가의 정치적 상상력이 부각된다. 다음으로, 『화산도』에서는 제주 민중이 4‧3무장봉기를 지지하는 가운데 혁명의 기치 속에서 해방의 정념을 북돋우며 부르는 노동요(‘맷돌‧방아노래’, ‘해녀노래’)와 항쟁노래(‘민중의 노래’)는 제주의 구술연행이 혁명과 결코 무관하지 않음을 증명해준다. 오히려 4‧3무장봉기는 제주 민중의 새로운 사회 건설을 향한 정치적 염원이 자연스레 동반되는 노동요와 항쟁노래의 구술연행으로 한층 실감을 얻는다. 이처럼 김석범의 ‘조선적인 것’은 문제지향적 공간으로서 제주가 지닌 정치적 상상력과 밀접히 연동된 것으로 『화산도』에서 보이는 ‘밀항의 상상력’ 또한 예외가 아니다. 밀항하는 도정에서, 해방공간에서 청산되지 못한 식민주의를 청산하고 반혁명분자의 배신행위를 응징한 것은 신생을 향해 떠나는 밀항선의 정치적 상상력을 배가시켜준다. 요컨대, 『화산도』에서 보이는 김석범의 ‘조선적인 것’은 해방공간의 혼돈에서 새롭게 모색되고 구축되어야 할 정치체(政治體)가 기존 근대 내셔널리즘으로 구축되는 국민국가와 다른 정치적 상상력을 함의한, 그것은 바로 제주라는 ‘지역 공동체’와 밀접한 연관을 맺는다.
Abstract
This study inspects Japanese Korean novelist Kim Seok-Bum’s roman fleuve Hwasando in terms of three dimensions to understand his literary truth of ‘Things Chosun’ and political imagination. ‘Things Chosun’ is not concentrated on national community based on Eurocentric modern nationalism. In other words, it is not focused on recovering national identity as one of Japanese Koreans. This emerges the political metaphor’s symbol form through the specific fork culture traditional ritual of Jeju community in Hwasnado. Through this, Seobuk young people’s group’s substance has been completely improved that it stood up forward to crush to death into Jeju community. And Kim’s imagination has not been surrendered as well as has not been compromised against lots of fatal violences of Seobuk young people’s group. And then, the labor song (Maeddol song, Bang-a song) and the resistance song (Haeyneo song) with Jeju people sang by supporting the April Third armed Uprising to encourage the liberal enthusiasm with a revolutionary ideology has been improved that the oral performance of Jeju is never unconcerned a revolution. Moreover the April Third armed Uprising obtains historical truth through the oral performance that performed the labor song and the resistance song accompanied naturally the political wish of establishment new society by Jeju peole. Regarding this, Kim Seok-Bum’s ‘Things Chosun’ is closely connected with Jeju’s political imagination as the problematic space. The imagination of secret passage is also not exception in Hwasanado. Among the process of secret passage what colonialism, remained in emancipation space, is not only rooted out but also to punish anti-revolutionist’s betrayal is notable the political imagination of a smuggler forward rebirth life. In short, Kim Seok-Bum’s ‘Things Chosun’ in Hwasando emerges that what the political substance, being capable of establishing newly amid the chaos of emancipation space, is different from the political imagination implicated nation state being structured with existing modern nationalism. It is closely connected with the very Jeju local community.
