신자도(信字圖)의 주제 표현 방식 연구

Abstract

This paper focuses on the narrative signs often seen in the ‘Sin’ word picture(信字圖), such as swan goose(鴻雁), Cheongjo(靑鳥, human face and bird body), carp(鯉魚), and plum blossom(梅花), and attempts to solve them by looking at the problems of the previous research. They thought "The letter is a covenant and a symbol of faith" in the previous study because they tried to directly combine the ‘letter’(書信) presented by the narrative sign with the Chinese character theme ‘Sin’(信, believe). The fact that the theme of the 'Sin' word picture is 'believe' is easy to grasp, In terms of why it used ‘letter’ or ‘news’, we can see that it used the method of expressing the early extended meaning(引申義) 'believe' through the late extended meaning ‘letter’. The 'Sin' word picture adopted this method because there are few pictures depicting character stories in the 'story picture' type. It chose a detour method because it was quite difficult to express the concept of 'believe'. This paper scrutinize the ‘Sin’ word picture in its entirety, corrects some of the picture titles(畵題) that were read incorrectly, confirms the stories through concrete texts, and in the process, we also confirmed that the image was created by Joseon people creatively imagining Cheongjo. Above all, this paper concluse that the theme of the ‘Sin’ word picture was expressed by extended maining. and we also confirms the fact that the way of expressing the abstract concepts of Folk painting(民畵) and Munjado(文字圖) has been expanded.
