초록

The global demographic shift toward an aging population has created unique challenges in oral healthcare delivery, with root caries emerging as a significant concern among older adults. The current evidence on root caries prevention and management strategies, the intersection of clinical interventions and public health approaches are reviewed throughout the paper. The effectiveness of preventive protocols, technological innovations, and community-based programs were evaluated through systematic analysis of recent five years of literatures. Our findings demonstrate that successful root caries management requires an integrated approach combining high-concentration fluoride interventions, minimally invasive treatments, and targeted public health programs. For future, developing risk assessment algorithms, teledentistry applications, and specialized preventive protocols could potentially cost-benefit ratios of up to 1:38. Notably, community-based programs incorporating caregiver education and mobile dental services have reduced root caries incidence by 40-65% in various elderly populations. These findings underscore the importance of developing sustainable, evidence-based strategies that address both individual patient care and populationlevel interventions, particularly considering projected increases in the global elderly population to 2 billion by 2050. The review provides a framework for healthcare providers and policymakers to implement comprehensive root caries management programs tailored to aging populations.
