Abstract
This study presents an adaptive game controller that combines a gripless structure and a modular input system to enhance gaming accessibility for users with upper-limb disabilities. The design overcomes the two-handed grip limitation of conventional controllers, allowing users to freely arrange button modules based on their physical conditions for personalized input. An upper-limb capability model was established, and both disability-simulation tests and evaluations with actual users with upper-limb impairments were conducted to assess operation efficiency, error rate, and user satisfaction. Results show that the proposed controller provides greater flexibility, task completion, and reduced fatigue than traditional designs. Simulated disability tests verified adaptability under moderate and severe impairment conditions, while tests with actual users confirmed stable performance for mild disabilities. The modular gripless design effectively improves accessibility and interaction experience for users with limited upper-limb function, offering strong potential for inclusive and accessible interface design.
