과학기술의 진보로 인해 인류에게 큰 영향력을 행사해온 테크놀로지에 대하여 그동안 기독교 신학은 어떠한 논의를 해왔는가? 그동안의 논의가 21세기에 이르러 그전과는 비교할 수 없을 만큼 빠른 속도로 발전해가는 첨단 테크놀로지에 대한 논의로까지 확대되었는가? 만약 그렇지 못하다면, 21세기 첨단 테크놀로지의 발전 양상에 대하여 기독교 신학은 지금 무엇을 직시해야하고, 이제 무엇을 말해 주어야하며, 앞으로 어떠한 논의를 펼쳐가야 하는가?본 논문은 위와 같은 관심과 의문으로부터 시작한다. 이러한 관심과 의문을 품은 채, 본 논문은 ‘미래 인간은 구원받을 수 있는가’라는 질문을 화두로 던지고 이에 대답해 가면서, 테크놀로지와 기독교가 현실적으로 처한 상호간의 관계성을 분석하고, 이러한 분석을 통하여 현대 테크놀로지에 대한 기독교 신학의 대응 및 논의의 방법과 방향을 제시해보고자 한다. 이를 위하여, 본 논문은 우선 21세기 첨단 GNR 테크놀로지의 최신 동향을 살펴보고, GNR 테크놀로지를 총체적으로 대표하는 AI 프로젝트를 통해 구현되어가는 미래 인간(posthuman)에 대하여 살펴본 후, 미래 인간의 구현을 통하여 현대 과학자들이 최종 목표로 삼게 된 불사(不死, immortality)를 분석해 봄으로써 그 목표가 어떻게 그들의 구원관으로 자리매김할 수 있게 되었는지, 그리고 그 과학적 구원관이 기독교에 주는 새로운 도전은 무엇이며 기독교 신학은 이에 어떻게 대처해 나가야할지 살펴보고자 한다.
Abstract
What has Christian theology talked about technology having a huge influence upon the mankind? Have the previous theological discourses on technology been developed and extended to a new dimension of discourse dealing with the current technology that is being advanced at an immeasurable high speed? If not, what reality does Christian theology face up to, what should it speak of, and what discourse should it proceed in?This article begins with these concerns and inquiries. Bearing in mind those concerns and inquiries, it methodologically casts a controversial question, 'Can posthuman be saved?' and seeks to answer that by analysing the current tangible relationship of theology and technology and seeking to propose a theological direction in responding to technology. For this, it firstly examines the twenty-first century cutting-edge technologies, i.e., GNR (Genetics, Nanotechnology, and Robotics) and their radical project, that is, AI (Artificial Intelligence) project pursuing the realization of posthuman in this world; secondly uncovers that the final goal of those technologies is posthuman immortality producing a new scientific view of salvation; thirdly diagnoses a radical challenge of this scientific salvation to Christianity
