고진하의 『우주배꼽』에 나타난 ‘신체’와 은유 구조

Abstract

The poet, Ko Jin-ha, has poetically embodied the devastating reality of Korean society in the 1980's and 1990's since industrialization, and combined it with Christian spirit, which served as the basis of the poet’s psychological world. In particular, it is noteworthy that his poetry has accomplished the important task of realizing the Christian view in the literary form. This study focuses on identifying the major poetic principles constituting literary imagery in his poems. His poetry Universal Navel which is subject to this study highlights transcendence as one of the most fundamental quests of human beings. In his poems, the human body acts as a main medium of transcendence and realizes an aesthetic sense based on metaphoric principles. Thus, this study concentrates on analyzing the metaphoric system that is built by the ‘body’ in the poet’s poetry. ‘Body’ in his poetry Universal Navel mainly exposes dual aspects of materialization and naturalization facilitating the expansion of meaning and the intensification of tension. The second chapter of this study examines the poet’s will for restoration that is kindled by the materialization of body. The third chapter of this study explores his will toward infinity that is ignited by naturalization beyond the materialization of body, it plays a key role in creating aesthetic sense. This study is significant in the fact that it goes beyond the existing studies focusing on identifying poet Ko Jin-ha’s ecological and Christian consciousness and analyzes the metaphoric structure as one of the main formal aesthetics of his poems.
