고진하 시에 나타난 생물의 비유적 의미 고찰

초록
고진하 시인은 농촌에서 목회를 하는 개신교 목사이다. 근대화로 인해 피폐한 농촌현실을 고발하고 비판해오던 시인은 90년대 이후로 존재의 내적 본질을 해명하는 데 초점을 두게 된다. 본고에서 텍스트로 삼은 고진하의 시집 『우주배꼽』은 인간의 외적 현실에서 내적 본질인 ‘초월성’으로 무게 중심을 옮겨오는 경계에 놓인다. 이 시기에 시인은 인간을 비롯하여 동식물을 아우르는 ‘생물’을 주시하고 있다. 생물은 인간의 실존을 발견하는 매개체로서, 그의 초월적 욕망을 촉발시키고 구현하는 대상이 된다는 점에서 매우 중요하다. 본고는 이러한 생물이 비유적 기법에 의해 의미가 창출되고 있음을 파악하고, 생물의 의미론적 변용을 고찰하는 데 집중하였다. 그의 『우주배꼽』에서는 동물의 인간으로의 전이, 인간의 동물로의 전이, 동식물의 비유적 결합과 인간화라는 세 갈래의 비유 양상에 의해 존재의 초월적 욕망이 구현되고 있다. 비유의 원리에 의해 소외된 농촌 사람들과 동식물 간의 위계가 무너지고 이들이 공존과 상생의 관계로 결속되고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 본고는 근대화 속에서 부단히 생명의 가치를 추구한 고진하 시인의 시정신과 미감을 규명하였다는 데 의의가 있다.
Abstract
Poet Ko Jin-ha is a minister serving a small church in a rural community. He primarily concentrated on disclosing and criticizing grim reality of impoverished rural life caused by modernization in his poems but he has shifted his focus and delved into inherent nature of the being since the 1990s. Ko Jin-ha’s poetry “Universal Navel” is a transitional work that reveals his poetic focus on inner being from external reality of human beings through the concept of transcendence. During this period of his poetic career, the poet especially pays attention to the concept of “Life” that encompasses both humans and plants and animals. This concept is crucial since it serves as the subject to instigate and embody his transcendent desire as a medium to recognize human existence. The purpose of this paper is to clarify that “life” creates meanings through metaphoric expressions and to look deeper into its semantic transformation in this poetry. In this poetry “Universal Navel,” the transcendent desires of the being are realized based on three-forked figurative aspects; “Transference from animals to humans,” “Transference from humans to animals,” and “Figurative connection between animals and plants and their humanization.” Based on these metaphoric principles, the hierarchy between isolated people in rural areas and animals and plants collapses and their relationship is reestablished on the basis on coexistence and mutual prosperity. This paper is significant in the fact that it stresses poetic spirit and aesthetic sense of the poet who has been on a relentless quest to identify life value amidst modernization.
