Abstract
The paper analyzes a contemporar y pattern of cultural consumption differentiation. Based on the telephone area code data of the United States, it shows the rise of a new pattern of cultural consumption, and argues that new cultural consumption is shaped by the presence and rise of high technology industries as well as traditional factors such as education or income. The analysis maintains that high-tech f irms and industries are becoming a major decisive component in contemporary cultural consumption. The result sheds crucial light on predicting the cultural consumption style in the future which will witness even stronger impact of high technology industries on socio-cultural life.
