Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of fun factors on exercise commitment among elementary school ice hockey players and, in doing so, to provide practical baseline data for coaches’ training program planning. The study surveyed 500 male students in grades 3–6 selected from among 1,324 students registered with the Korea Ice Hockey Association in 2013. Of the 500 questionnaires, 464 were used for the final analysis after excluding 36 insincere responses. The measurement tool was a questionnaire, and the data were analyzed using frequency analysis, reliability analysis, multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA), and Scheffé post hoc tests. The results indicated that grade, participation period, participation frequency, and competition experience were associated with significant differences in the fun subfactors (interest, health, sociality, recognition). Award-winning experience was also associated with significant differences in interest, sociality, and recognition. IIn addition, grade and exercise time showed significant differences in the cognitive component of exercise commitment. Participation period, participation frequency, competition experience, and award-winning experience showed significant differences in both the cognitive and behavioral components These findings suggest that the design of training programs that consider diverse fun factors is necessary to promote sustained commitment among elementary school ice hockey players.
