Abstract
This article is written to examine the transition stages of a series of shamanic thoughts targeting the sea. The core of the article is a detailed examination of the meaning of the whale, a sea animal, the tiger, a land animal, and other animals found in the Bangudae petroglyphs. The appearance of shamans in a primitive mentality and their role in interacting and controlling nature and humans was viewed as primitive and was explained by emphasizing this stage of thinking. In the Bronze Age, as the political status of the shaman group, which was different from the conventional method, rose, a ritual centered on the souls of people's ancestors emerged with the emergence of political shaman-kings for the solidarity and unity of human-centered rulers and ruled. As a result, a series of rituals for abundance and animal spirits deteriorated, and rituals that soothed the souls of the dead while praying for human-centered abundance became prevalent. Currently, exorcism to pray for abundance in the sea and soul exorcism for those who died in the sea, which are found in Korean folklore, have become very popular. In the current customs, the soul of the sea and the healing of the sea are now emerging as important tasks. We can see that the fertility rites and human-centered rituals seen in the sea rituals must now return the healing function for coexistence and reconciliation between nature and humans, focusing on the recovery or healing abilities they originally had. It can be said that the core aspect of bada gut is to restore the regulating ability of gut and to restore the function of a guardian of the sea while respecting the spirit of the sea. The desired destination of this article is to restore the healing power of the sea for the soul of the sea. It reminds us of many examples of exorcism in Jeju Island. The ability to adjust beyond the natural centrism of humans and reconcile with nature presents a natural possibility for us to rely on. With this in mind, we need to restore the original function of gut and continue the tradition of bada gut while emphasizing reconciliation centered on empathy and communication between humans and nature.
