Abstract
The Battle of Kumsong, which broke out in July 1953, just two weeks before the Armistice Agreement, has been taken for granted that the Chinese military intended to "restore their crumpled image through military operations" due to the release of anti-communist prisoners. However, rather than these one-dimensional interests, this study saw them as the result of interacting with the three strong motivations of human nature: Fear, Honor, and Interest, which Thucydides claimed. Analyzing the Battle of Kumsong as the three drivers of Thucydides provides important lessons for determining the strategic behavior of a country in possible future crises.
