Abstract
With the advent of the 4th Industrial Revolution, the information society has entered the era of A.I. technology. Now, it is not possible to imagine everyday life without it. Amidst the increasing dependence on technology, the art world has diagnosed the future of creation in various ways. There are three main topics that have been discussed in relation to artworks. The first is the question of the subject of creation. In the case of artworks created by A.I., the question is who is the creator of the artwork. The second is the issue of copyright and ownership of the work, which is related to the creator (subject). Finally, the third issue is the category of artificial and non-artificial. It is the view that divides works into human and non-human depending on the scope of “artificial”. This leads to the question of posthumanism. These discussions will be challenged by the complex intertwining of the human and the artificial in a variety of cases that we will experience in the future. Contemporary art has been dematerialized through conceptual art. As concepts have moved into the realm of the mind, art has become as of incomprehensible without the semantics of language and symbols. Even if we don't bring out the theories of defining art such as language, expression, and intuition, contemporary art can not escape the structure of linguistic communication in which creator, work, viewer, meaning, and interpretation interact. Therefore, this article examines 'expression' and 'aesthetic meaning of plastic arts' to help us understand creation. This is because we believe that the basic concepts of art will play a role in framing the relationship between art and A.I. technology. Art emerges between a sense of beauty and a sense of ugly. It is an area that only evolved humans with emotional navigation can do. It may be an illusion created by the imperfect human deficiency of disturbed signaling systems in the brain. Art exists between the real and the ideal aiming at Idea. Above all, the power of art is weakened if there is no awareness of reality. Recent discussions about A.I. technology have centered on whether A.I. is creative, and when will the singularity point arrive where A.I. exceeds human intelligence? Unconditional reliance on A.I. technology is likely to stifle human imagination and creative expression, making humans passive. We cannot let go of the concern that the creative process will be obscured and only the plausible result (the finished product) will be emphasized. Artist and theorist Joanna Zylinska has argued that what matters is not whether an A.I. can draw like a human, or whether it is creative enough to beat a human, but how much the human experience of art can be expanded through the artworks it generates. In the age of artificial intelligence, we have to seriously think about how we can be creative. This is because A.I. is not just a tool, but an object that coevolves with humans. Therefore, we, as humans, must continue to think about “How do we relate to A.I.?” and “What is the role of humans in the age of A.I.?” Acknowledging the three issues raised in the introduction, this paper focuses on drawing the relationship between A.I. technology and artistic creation. The exploration of this relationship is not a solution to a specific problem, but rather a springboard for approaching various issues that may arise in the future. However, I hope that it can serve as a map for shortcuts to problem-solving by preventing unnecessary misunderstandings and exaggerations that may occur during the creative process. It is also meaningful as an opportunity to pay attention to the changes brought about by the Fourth Industrial Revolution in art and to determine whether A.I. art will bring an end to the existing art. Just as health feels different when you're sick, happiness is more urgent the stronger the trials, pain, and dissatisfaction. That is why we need to take the essence of art seriously in an era where the boundaries between technology and art are blurring.
