Abstract

This study is aimed at demonstrating the real meanings of the poetry of Park In-hwan, in 1950’s and how they reacted to the reality of the 1950s. The poetry of Park In-whan stresses on the negation against existing values. First, the poetry of Park in the period of liberation from Japan, included the direct realistic inconsistency such as the resistance against suppressed reality, criticism of capitalism and so on. These direct criticisms of reality, drastically changed after the experience of the Korean War. The matter of ‘We’ - which was important in the period of liberation - was turned into that of ‘I’, which was originated from the existential crisis through Korea War. Civil unrest, despair, and death was more occur ant than the promise of a more optimistic future. After the experience of the Korea War, the negation in Park’s poetry was extended to the maximum through symbolic rhetoric of ‘the death of God’. It was related with self-destructing internal criticism, Ardorno commented, through which Park pursued the matter of salvation. .
