초록

This study aims to review the train approach alarm to prevent train crashes that occur the most with railroad maintenance workers in Korea. At present, although some new railroad lines are constructed for railroad lines of Korea, projects of improvement of old lines, connection and increase of branch lines continue to be conducted. This results from increases in rail freight transport and railroad transportation users. The pedestrian staff crossings operated in Korea are installed mainly in the high-speed railway lines and in specific locations. Technologies introduced from other countries in the past exhibit low performance and aging, requiring excessive maintenance costs. Therefore, it is essential to allow the pedestrian staff crossings to be used by line inspection and maintenance workers in constructing an operating line during a specific period. Moreover, it is essential to ensure the safety of maintenance workers, and the train approach alarm should be able to detect and give an alarm of approaching trains to provide line maintenance workers with time to be out of the way of the approaching trains. To solve the problems described above, this study aims to examine pedestrian staff crossings currently in operation in Korea and other countries, compare and analyze current operation, strength and weakness of the train approach alarms used in other countries to suggest requirements of train detection technology and analyze improvements.
