목적 북한 사회에서 ‘태권도 사관’에 대한 시대별 인식의 변천은 어떻게 형성·재구성되었는지 규명하고자 한다. 이를 통해 북한 태권도의 가치를 재조명하여 남북한의 ONE 태권도로 나가가야 할 방향에 대한 기초자료를 제공하는 데 본 연구의 목적이 있다. 방법 광명백과사전(2008)에서 정한 시기 구분을 기준으로 북한 원전 자료(사전, 백과사전, 신문, 영화, 간행물) 및 재일본조선인총연합회 간행물을 수집하여, 문헌고찰 방법으로 분석하였다. 결과 전후인민경제 복구건설과 사회주의 건설시기부터 우리식 사회주의를 옹호고수하며 강성대국 건설을 위한 선군 정치시기까지 태권도는 우리나라의 고유무술로 수박, 권법, 택견이 태권도라는 ‘전통주의 사관’으로 인식하고 있다. 결론 북한에서 태권도는 단순한 스포츠를 넘어 민족 정체성과 체제 정통성을 매개하는 상징으로 기능하고 있으며, 본 연구는 남북한 간 태권도 인식 차이를 이해하고 통합 담론을 형성하는 데 기초 자료를 제공한다.
Abstract
Purpose This study explores how North Korea’s historical perspective on Taekwondo has been constructed and transformed across different periods. By analyzing the formation and evolution of Taekwondo narratives in North Korean society, the research aims to provide a scholarly basis for potential unification and mutual understanding of Taekwondo traditions on the Korean peninsula. Method Primary North Korean sources—dictionaries, encyclopedias, news articles, films, and official documents—were examined using content analysis. Materials from Chongryon were also reviewed. Results North Korea has long described Taekwondo as a native art rooted in Subak, Kwonbeop, and Taekkyeon. After Choi Hong-hee introduced ITF Taekwondo, this narrative became a tool to promote national identity and political legitimacy. Conclusion The historical perspectives on Taekwondo in both Koreas are largely traditionalist. In North Korea, Taekwondo symbolizes national identity and regime legitimacy beyond being a sport. This study offers foundational insights for understanding differences and fostering unification discourse.
