退溪 及門弟子의 家禮講錄 연구

Abstract

This paper examines the achievements in the study of rituals by Toegye and his immediate disciples as seen in the citations of the “Book of Rites”(禮書), and reviews how they studied the “Garye”(家禮). Among Toegye's disciples, we selected Kim Chwil-yeo(金就礪), Woo Seong-jeon(禹性傳), Lee Deok-hong(李德弘), and Kim Ryung(金隆) in relation to the study of “Garye” and explore their accomplishments and their positions in the study of rituals. Toegye and his immediate disciples devoted much time and effort to studying for the cultivation of the mind and to elucidate the principles of Neo-Confucianism. For this purpose, they engaged in deep discussions on these topics not only through individual study processes but also by gathering in specific locations for in-depth lectures. In contrast, discussions on the “Garye” were primarily conducted through individual study, and when questions arose, they were mainly resolved through direct meetings or correspondence by letter. As a result, efforts to compile these correspondences according to the chapters of the “Garye” and complete the book “Toegye Garye” continued throughout the Joseon Dynasty. Through this process, the ritual studies of the Toegye School, centered around Toegye, were firmly established, becoming a significant current in the history of ritual studies during the Joseon Dynasty.
