본고는 최근 자료가 증가하기 시작한 수렵함정의 조사연구법에 대한 시론 제시를 목적으로작성한 것이다. 이를 위해 우리나라와 일본의 연구 성과 및 조사사례를 검토한 다음, 이를 기초로조사연구법에 대해 살펴보았다. 수렵함정 조사법은 지표조사와 시굴조사, 발굴조사, 자연과학분석, 보고서 작성으로 구분하여기술하였다. 수렵함정을 대상으로 한 지표조사에서는 자연환경과 주변 유적 분포상에 주목할필요가 있다. 수렵함정의 판정기준은 현재 제시된 기준을 지속적으로 검토함과 동시에 새로운기준을 계속 제시하는 과정을 거쳐 확립되어야 한다. 발굴조사에서 수렵함정에 대한 많은 정보를얻기 위한 방안으로 유구를 절개하여 조사하거나 내부트렌치 설치와 평면노출을 반복적으로진행하는 방법을 제시하였다. 또한 보고서에 수렵함정의 복원안 게재를 제안하였고 AMS연대측정과화분분석, 토양분석 등 다양한 자연과학분석의 적용이 필요함을 기술하였다. 수렵함정 연구법은 생업과 관련된 내용에 초점을 맞추었다. 우리나라 청동기시대에구제수렵용 수렵함정이 존재할 가능성이 있음을 검토하였는데, 구제수렵의 존재는 농경사회를뒷받침하는 하나의 근거가 될 수 있다. 이러한 가능성을 검증하기 위해서는 다양한 분야의 연구성과가 함께 축적되어야 함을 알 수 있었다.
Abstract
This paper concerns the investigation and study of hunting traps, which have increasingly been identified in the archaeological record. We examine, firstly, work which has previously been carried out in Korea and Japan. Based on this, we present a preliminary outline for the study of prehistoric hunting traps. Five different strategies are suggested for the investigation of these hunting traps: surface survey, test excavation, excavation, scientific analysis and post-excavation publication. The need for surface surveys to focus on the surrounding environment, as well as the distribution of nearby sites, is stressed. It is also argued that excavation must employ a variety of techniques; these include exposing the cross-section of the hunting traps, putting small trenches into the traps, and wide-scale excavation of the entire surface area. Finally, we argue that the final excavation report must include the results of the scientific analysis (AMS dating, pollen analysis, soil analysis) and reconstruction drawings of the hunting traps. It is suggested that the study of hunting traps has the potential to provide information on prehistoric subsistence. The possibility that these traps were used for extermination hunting in the Korean Bronze Age is considered, extermination hunting being an important feature of farming society. We argue that in order to substantiate this hypothesis, further study, following various avenues of research, is required.
