Abstract

One of the important areas in pastoral counseling is the psychological assessment of the client. Psychological assessment goes beyond a simple psychological test for clients and encompasses a broader area, including clinical observation and interviews. Psychological assessment is important in pastoral counseling because of diagnosing the client on the basis of the psychological assessment. However, most psychological assessment in pastoral counseling depends on psychological resources. Consequently, the treatment plan and process also tend to rely on psychological resources. The purpose of this study is to propose “Draw-the-Bible” (DTB). DTB is a method of psychological assessment for clients that leverages the Bible, an important resource in pastoral counseling. DTB is the use of drawing as a tool for general counseling and the Bible as a tool for pastoral counseling. In particular, DTB reads the client's psychology by having expressed through painting the contents of the Bible. This test is appropriate as a projective test of psychological tests and corresponds to drawing tests located in the same context, such as “Draw-a-Man,” “House-Tree-Person Test,” “Draw-a-Person,” “Draw-a-Family,” “Draw-a-Person-in-the-Rain,” and “Draw Animals.” The author took advantage of the (K)HTP test for 15 years in the area of pastoral counseling. Two years of that was used to devise a way to assess a client's psychology through Bible drawing. This paper is the result of this process and remains incomplete. The author looks forward to DTB being developed in a more effective way through more research and clinical work and through the efforts of more pastoral counseling scholars.
