본 연구의 목적은 슈퍼비전이 목회상담자의 정체성 발달과 성장과정에 미치는 영향을 탐구하기 위함이다. 이를 위해 상담자의 성장에 필요한 슈퍼비전의 기능과 슈퍼바이저의 역할이 무엇인지에 대해 기존 연구를 고찰한 후, 본 필자가 2007년부터 2018년까지 10년 동안 목회상담 슈퍼비전과 일반상담 슈퍼비전을 받으면서 작성한 반성적 사고 기록을 바탕으로 전문적인 목회상담사가 되어가는 과정을 탐구한다. 이로 인해 목회상담자가 일반 상담자와 다른 특성이 무엇인지 인식하고, 슈퍼바이저와 슈퍼바이지의 치료적 동맹, 지지적이고 안아주는 환경, 수평적이고 상호작용적 관계, 하나님의 관계에 대한 구속적인 통찰이 이루어진 슈퍼비전을 재고하였다. 더불어 권위적인 슈퍼비전에서 벗어나 상호존중의 목회상담 슈퍼비전이 되기 위해서는 슈퍼바이저의 수용적인 태도와 상담자의 목회신학적 역할이 중요하다는 것을 필자의 실제적 경험보고에서 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 목회상담자가 효과적인 상담을 할 수 있기 위해서는 긍정적인 관계 경험이 중요하고, 슈퍼비전을 통해 신학적 성찰과 자기 인식이 이루어지도록 도와주어야 한다는 것을 알 수 있다. 이 연구를 통해 목회상담자 수련과정에서 이루어진 신학적 성찰이 목회상담자 정체성 발달에 미치는 영향을 이해하고, 일반상담과 차별된 목회상담 슈퍼비전의 방향성을 제시할 수 있다는데 의의가 있다.
Abstract
In this paper I use my own experience to explore the impact of supervision on a pastoral counselor’s identity development and growth process. After reviewing existing research on the function of supervision and the role of supervisors for the counselor’s growth, I explore my own journey as a pastoral counselor by reviewing the personal self-reflection papers I have written after each supervision for pastoral counseling and general counseling sessions for 10 years, from 2007 to 2018. This demonstrates general distinctions of pastoral counseling supervision including the therapeutic alliance between a supervisor and a supervisee, supportive and holding environment, horizontal and interactive relationships, and salvific insight on the relationship with God. Also, I use my personal experience to document the importance of the supervisor’s accepting attitude and the pastoral theological role of the counselor in order to create a supervisory relationship that is mutually respectful but not authoritative. Further, my analysis implies that it is essential for the pastoral counselor to experience positive relationships in order to offer effective counseling services, which can be assisted by supervision that encourages theological reflection and self-understanding. This study is meaningful in that it demonstrates the impact of theological reflection through pastoral supervision on the supervisee’s identity formation as a pastoral counselor, and in doing so it implies the future orientation of pastoral supervision as distinguished from general supervision.
